Rammstein - 'Amerika' (Universal)
2/5

So the result of the American election is with us (how could you?) and various outbursts and attempts at political angst and attacks on American patriotism fill. So, of course, who better to comment on the situation than glorious German sextet, the renowned Rammstein. Indeed, who else could come up with such stirring genius as, 'We all live in Amerika. Amerika ist vunderbar.' Which, for those of you that don't have your GCSE German, translates as, 'We all live in America. America is wicked.' Well, there you have it. The political voice and poetic tone on the perception of Americanization across the rest of the Western World. Nicely said, gentlemen.
This single is, quite simply, hideous. Random Yankee symbolism gently inserted through the bratwurst groans makes for really quite terrible imagery of the tainted state. Yes - Mickey Mouse, Wonderbras and Coca Cola; no, the Deutsch music-meisters leave no stone unturned. Skin-itchingly emo guitar solos make us want to chuck back up our quarter pounders, meanwhile. Oh, why do we all have to get so political about things? Why can't the German black comics just stick to Catherine wheels on their heels?
