Covers, remixes and re-arrangements of classics can often f**k up. Fact.
However, this unsuspecting offering with vocals by the glorious, loveable Trekkie legend that is William Shatner and arrangement by the talented Ben Folds is simply superb. Keeping the same arid, black comedy of the original; Cocker's dry take on the reality of Brit working class living is even more purposeful and effective with such a distinct American accent and heritage behind the narrative.
Together with child choirs and Joe Jackson giving a few extra emo edges round the skirting, this wonderful rendition dénouements in a tremendous, funky as hell crescendo. No doubt Cocker is grinning from ear to ear.
