Babyshambles - 'Killamangiro' (Rough Trade)
4/5
By: Toby L
You didn't see it coming, did you; a proper, decent single from Peter Doherty's Babyshambles racket.
Sounding akin to The Libertines' younger brother lost in a gargantuan shopping-centre in Essex, 'Killamangiro' is a favourable slab of offbeat, lilting, Brit-dirt pop - ramshackle geetars, a fervent Doherty vocal (and how we miss it) and some panache-ridden rhythmic dart-abouts. It's truly up there with his finest work, no doubt partly aided by producer of the moment, Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, The Futureheads - geddit?). No, we didn't see it coming either.
