Prosaics - 'Aghast Agape' (Matador)
3/5
By: Matt Tomiak
Provocative name, that. Identifying yourself on a debut EP using another word for 'dull' and 'characterless' should be either very brave or very dumb.
As it stands, 'Aghast Agape' does end up rather run-of-the-mill - at first. These New Yorkers employ a Robert Smith wail, prickly Franz Ferdinand guitars and not much in the way of inventiveness across these five tracks, although the insistent 'Now The Shadow Of The Column', indicating a doomed romantic streak akin to The Killers, hints at finer, illustrious things.
