Embrace - 'Ashes' (Independiente)
3/5

Oh, how we adore turning up our indier-than-thou, punk-as-f**k noses at bands like Embrace. Surely they, along with the Travis's and Ocean Colour Scenes of this world (among countless others of that ilk), deserve nothing less than dismissive public scorn as soppy music for folks to wet their PJs to.
Bad news, boys and girls. Not only is their comeback album 'Out Of Nothing' (apt title) gathering up accolades faster than one of those new-fangled, tilting trains, it's already gone gold. And should you choose to listen with your ears and not your prior gripes, you may just find out why on the latest by the brothers McNamara, 'Ashes'; soaring, fist-pumping choruses, harmonies-a-plenty and plain old great songwriting... it's nearly all you can muster not to kick back and enjoy.
Mock it to your friends. You'll still be singing it in the shower. Not really a comeback for Embrace as much as it's as usual. Just admit it.
