The Others - 'Lackey' (Poptones)

3/5

By: Matt Tomiak

The Others - 'Lackey'Well, the first thirty seconds are ace. Starting off like some kind of impossibly hip Franz Ferdinand bootleg, merging the pulsating rhythm of 'Darts Of Pleasure' with 'Michael's voluptuous bassline before colliding with Hammond Jr and Valensi tearing chunks out of 'Last Nite.' They know their market.

Indeed, 'Lackey' is the most polished, accessible Others offering to date. Then the vocals kick in. Alas, for all Dom Master's righteous indignation, his considered opinions on the unhappy lot of the Proletariat are less 'F**k you, I won't do what you tell me' and more 'F**k you, I won't clean up my bedroom.' 'I don't wanna have to listen to you today!' he moans, like so many a pissed-off adolescent before him. Still, the 'pissed off adolescent' - pretty lucrative demographic, isn't it?
