Dead Fly Buchowski - 'Blackout' (Beggars Banquet)
3/5

Of course everyone is going to say this is their year. Why would you listen to a band who thought any less of their chances? Modesty's all well and good, but when rocking out, some conviction is even more necessary. 'Blackout' stinks of the stuff.
Whether Dead Fly Buchowski could look you in the eye and claim dominion over all things musically interesting in the next twelve months is another thing. This isn't particularly intriguing. It's rock and roll, a bluesy, heavy, punk racket. It thinks a lot of itself. It's also thoroughly, if only briefly, entertaining.
Sometimes we're so obsessed with the future that the present seems to not matter. Whatever this is the sound of, it's not tomorrow. But caught up in the three and a half minutes, the lack of looking any other way other than down at your knees whilst banging your head momentarily doesn't matter. How they pack it might be different in days to come, but a punch will remain a punch. This hits the target.
