LCD Soundsystem - 'Daft Punk Is Playing At My House' (DFA / EMI)
4/5

If we are to look at the behaviour of musicians on a purely anthropological manner, it soon becomes clear that they fall into different tribes. Here are a few of the more common:
The Hairinion (Latin - waxusdaxushighlightusmaximus) - Like the Biblical Samson, the Hairinion believes that his God-like supernatural musical abilities lie within his capability to have bigger hair than anyone else. Can often be seen at London's Death Disco in small groups (usually four) where they mark their territory with strong smelling hair product.
The Satrianite (Lt - guitarusolouswankerus) - Named after his love of LA session guitar wizard Joe Satriani, the Satrianite can be identified by his long pony-tailed hair, goatee beard and hot-red guitar. His habitat is Acton where he delights and amazes Australian music fans with a display of lightening fast fretboard action over a whole host of INXS songs.
James Murphy (AKA LCD Soundsystem) is perhaps one of the rarest (and in today's musical climate, most refreshing) breeds of them all: The musician who refuses to take himself seriously. For this is the chap whose follow-up single to his critically acclaimed debut 'Losing My Edge', had the phrase 'not as good as 'Losing My Edge'' emblazed on the artwork with the justification of, 'I always try and help people write reviews.' Oh, how we like this man.
LCD Soundsystem brings his musical blend of Punk/Funk/House in latest single 'Daft Punk Is Playing In My House' together with the dry wit that we have come to expect. The tune deals with the bizarre fable of a group of kids saving up enough money to fly Daft Punk over to their hometown to get to them to DJ at one of their house parties. It is an irresistible blend of fat beats, dirty punk-rock bass riffs, wonderful one-liners ('Got everybody's PA in my house, Sarah's girlfriend is working the door') and the addition of perhaps and musical first: the cowbell solo. Long may this tribe continue to flourish.
