Numbers - 'Life' (Artrocker)
3/5
By: Matt Tomiak

Indebted to both the angular punk acts of the late 1970s and their New Wave descendents, arty Californian synth-rock trio Numbers have created a short, sharp, serrated little record.
Barely twenty minutes in length, 'Numbers Life' is a chaotic, discordant ten-track aural assault that will seem inaccessibly inharmonious to most. There are some fine moments here, however; 'Human Replace' contains possibly the best public-safety-warning-as-rock chorus since Electric Six's 'Danger! High Voltage' ('Doors are Closing! Please stand clear of the doors!'), whilst the stuttering 'Prison Life' threatens to turn into Elastica's 'Connection' at any moment.
Needless to say, there's safety in these here Numbers.
