The Glitterati - 'You Got Nothing On Me' (Atlantic)
2/5

Now, we're all for proto-punk - the notion that the barriers are being shifted, whilst in keeping with a traditional sense of cutting, abrasive heritage (youngsters Agent Blue do this with style and grit).
But glam types The Glitterati are just a bit too wilfully retrogressive. Faux-chauvs Towers Of London, too: your day will come. With Guns 'N' Roses firmly, graciously locked up in a padded-cell/studio laboratively sucking the soul out of what's most likely an uninspired, barren rut of archaic stadium schlock (the much-fabled, but never heard 'Chinese Democracy'), where the new pretenders warrant a space is just as questionable - tragically, 'You Got Nothing On Me' is dumb, but in all the wrong ways. Squealing guitars, snarled vocals, mincing hair; the elements are in place, save for, in this case, the tune.
