New Order - 'Krafty' (London)
3/5
By: Toby L
In the fabled year that the UK went eighties barmy, the influential veterans that are hardly partly, more wholly, responsible for the indie-dance onslaught return.
But New Order in a modern-day context seem devoid of the timelessness of their early output; and it seems ironic that a band whose initial waves shaped the sound of now come back sounding flatter (and fatter) than those they've gone on to spawn.
Still, that's not to say the thudding keyboard pop of 'Krafty' (a diatribe, albeit a crassly simple one, of the everyday grind) isn't without its dainty, melodic charm - but given the choice of a stubbly Hooky or pasty-faced Brandon Flowers... we'll let you finish that one.
