Yeti - 'Sense Of Wonder' / 'Working In The Industry' (Moshi Moshi)
4/5

In a climate where every band in the country wants to be, or sound like, The Libertines, what does one of the ex-members of that most perennial of modern bands go and do? The opposite.
Genius. Yeti are a rivetingly traditional, jangly, warm and safe proposition, fronted by former Libs bassist, John Hassall. They're a quintet so disinterested in any Hoxton hairdos that we're more likely to liken them to Cast than The Others (yet don't be detracted).
This La's-y acoustic pop debut is the most innocent and melodic thing we've heard since the turn of the year. 'Never Lose Your Sense Of Wonder' is a scintillating, uplifting ode to avoiding the woes of daily regime, whilst 'Working For The Industry' is a shuffling, Coral-evoking rant against the intrepid climes of the modern recording-industry. 'They chew you up, they spit you out,' Hassall sneers. They may do. But Yeti seem to have come out beautifully, reassuringly unscathed thus far.
