System Of A Down - 'BYOB' (Sony BMG)
4/5
By: Toby L
That System Of A Down would, or could, return with anything other than nihilistic, overblown and not-half pompous ardent metal-wrangling isn't possible.
'BYOB' is more aware, begrudging rock noise that is epitomised by the (purposefully?) garish artwork; itself a mesh and mess of eye-less faces and a tirade of zeppelin-shaped bombs. Seemingly, SOAD, save for the ever-so-slick production, are the grittiest, yet most articulately orchestrated, mainstreamers we may have left.
