Wolfmother - 'Dimensions' EP (Modular)

5/5

By: Joshua K

WolfmotherNo shit, Wolfmother have a lot to live up to. Their band lore includes getting signed at gig #4. Having their demos mixed for their eponymous debut EP by Detroit garage rock production god Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, Dirtbombs, etc, etc). And promptly slaying their native Australia last fall, with an album - due out on these shores in May - recorded in the same studio as Nirvana's 'Nevermind.'

And let's face it, if your band's name is Wolfmother, and your singer

looks like Bolan and sings like Plant, then you'd better rock - hard. Like a bunch of Orc marauders decimating the Forgotten Realms, if you know what I mean.

Thankfully, the Antipodes' latest export prove to be everything The Datsuns ever threatened to become... and, fortunately for them, more. Lead EP tracks 'Dimension' and 'Mind's Eye' both feature on the forthcoming album and give you an indication of what's in store: heavy, balls-out rockers and melodious power-ballads that are at once catchy as hell and, despite the clear Zeppelin influence, as fresh as a Brisbane morning.

More impressive, still: the LP's even better. Just you (try and) wait.
