Morning Runner - Be All You Want Me To Be

Morning Runner - Be All You Want Me To Be

They are, it must be said, and awful lot like Keane. But there's something underneath, a soul that marks Morning Runner out with so much more potential. The guitars are wired, the vocals soar, and occasionally the tune plunges into a momentary dissonance that speaks so much more than the impassioned lyrics and vocals ever could.

It's still a piano-driven ballad, though, and 'Be All You Want Me To Be' suffers from being the latest in a long line of similarly nice-enough indie-pop songs. If you let yourself get lost in Matt Greener's yearnings this is a powerful slice of optimism born from despair. But to most, Morning Runner are falling into that trap of trying too hard to be what others want them to be, and not listening to the voice that's telling them to be different.
