Milburn - Storm In A Teacup / Showroom

Milburn are the all-bran version of Franz Ferdinand's sugar-coated, mass-pleasing big-brand. At first we spat it out - t'was a bit rough - but then grew to love it, as tongues stumbled across the fruity bits. To go along with those precision danceable segments there's a few zesty ska influences, and much more blatant chunks of rock 'n' roll than the other leading competitors. Perhaps it's because Milburn are the homegrown, organic types... that Northern accent gives them a real idiosyncrasy juxtaposed with their polished finish; as they slur that 'the book that you're reading is upside down', we take it as a retort to the stylised culture of their contemporaries.

So, with the riffs and the rolling, distorted bass, Milburn are slightly odd, unprocessed and crunchy at first... but they're a healthy and refreshing alternative to the affected eccentricity and quirks of the majority.
