King Creosote - Bootprints

King Creosote might just be the inheritor to Damon Gough's inherently cheeky Northern songwritery-ness (it's a word, OK?) He's certainly catchy, and at times witty... the undisguised (if not emphasised) accent only reinforces the likeness.

There is, however, a flaw. Whilst Badly Drawn Boy is much of the above, he's rarely irrelevant... something this single suffers from... after the wry smile the first time round it starts to get a little bit old. This isn't timeless humour; it's all a bit gimmicky.

It's good, though - the remixes reveal it to be far from a throwaway single, that time has been put in, and that there's substance beyond the sheen. But King Creosote might benefit from a little aging before we allow him to assert, and certainly before we agree, that he rules. Ok?
