The Noisettes - Scratch Your Name (Side Salad)

4/5

By: Thomas Hannan

Noisettes - Scratch Your Name

"Scratch your name in to the fabric of this world before you go", yelp the inimitable Shinghai and her co-Noisettes for the chorus of this burly, vibrant rawk-out (the mis-spelling there being entirely fitting, as a first listen will confirm). And by doing so, you get the impression that what they're actually commanding of you is simply "follow our lead..."

The Noisettes are all about originality, the desire to leave a lasting impression of a style that couldn't be attributed to anyone else. 'Scratch Your Name' does just that - it fumbles and shrieks around in its verses, searching for the huge riff and killer chorus it knows are only seconds away and launches into them with signature gusto, providing the kiss of life into the listless, rock and roll cadaver that so many other, less invigorating acts embody.

Here's my favourite part - they're still nowhere near as goon on record as they are live. And this record's a ruddy corker.
