So Frank and Kim can get along well enough to continue sharing a stage, but any time he presents her with something that could constitute a new Pixies album she turns her pretty nose up at it, understandably dismissing it as middle of the road, middle age alt-country which she wants nothing to do with. No new record on the way. Mourn.
Yet, simultaneously, celebrate - 'Insistor' is, in essence, 'Vamos' trimmed down, given an intelligible chorus and an even jauntier rumble for the naughties. But oh, if it were that simple - we're still able to miss the Pixies because Tapes N Tapes aren't really anything like them at all, bar this one exciting little ditty. Studying the past and moving on from the lessons it taught us (e.g. don't sack your band via a fax - bad Black Francis), they're all the more exciting because they belong to no time other than now. Oh, and their songs - all of them - triumph.
