The Basement - I Just Caught A Face (Deltasonic)
2/5
By: Thomas Hannan
The Basement have been a 'name' for ages. Now they need to be a band. Before it's too late.
Never ones to strike whilst the iron's hot, they now find themselves surrounded by bands who love strumming their acoustic guitars all the way to chart glory (those ever chipper Kooks first springing to mind). Come on then boys, this is your time. Slay us.
Well, they'd never slay anything - it's all far too full of toe tappin', finger clickin' wholesomeness for that. But you can't help but feel that in the future, when their contemporaries are rolling in pretty green, that The Basement won't wish that they released something a little more memorable than 'I Just Caught A Face' at this opportune time. It's pleasant, it's cute, it's a sincere little slice of guitar stroking melancholia. But for me, it's just not particularly exciting. I simply hope that thousands of other folk disagree with me, this sells a truckload, and The Basement find the proper killer tune they really need.
