Jack Planck - 'To Hell With You, I'll Make My Own People' (One Little Indian)

2/5

Jack Planck - 'To Hell...'

Not for Jack Planck a star-studded, champagne-swilling album-launch shindig. Oh no - this album was unleashed with a do in Hamley's toy-store.

Yet that fact tells you much about 'To Hell With You, I'll Make My Own People'; yep, it does seem apt that a record opening with a track entitled 'The Boy With The Raccoon Penis' enjoyed its first spins amidst squealing hordes of hyperactive eight-year-olds.

We've seen this knockabout cut n' paste sample thing before; think the knowing silliness of Lemon Jelly's 'Nice Weather for Ducks' or the deranged brilliance of The Avalanches' 'Frontier Psychiatrist.' As such, 'THWYIMMOP' doesn't reach any great new heights of musical mischief, and whilst there is the odd gem amongst Mr Planck's late-night, post-club noodling - the swooning, playful 'Chom Chom Generation', for starters - there's frustratingly not a great deal to get sweaty over.
