Dangerdoom itself is a haughty concept, two hip hop luminaries (Dangermouse and MF Doom - quite what the 'MF' stands for he changes from interview to interview) joining both names and forces to annihilate every rap artist who isn't quite up to their remarkably high, innovative standard. Ones they admire survive, and get to appear on the LP.
Talib Kweli is one of them, and it's he who gets the honor of the chance to chat all over 'Old School'. But whilst the idea behind the project is all important, there's nothing particularly conceptually interesting about this one track - which, actually, is what makes it quite such a laugh.
When talented people get together and let down their guard, it's going to produce something which sounds both offhand and full of intelligence, which is what this is. Based around a jaunty selection of happily tooted brass notes and Danger Mouse's block rockin' beat, friends 'Doom and Kweli just talk about how 'old school' they are for a few minutes. In the hands of lesser men, it'd be self congratulatory, clichéd rubbish. These lads make it sound like sunshine.
