Kasabian - Empire (Columbia)

4/5

By: Andy Willson

Kasabian - Empire'Empire' - A political unit having an extensive territory or comprising a number of territories or nations and ruled by a single supreme authority. (Thanks, online dictionary!) Never a truer word spoken.

Having been silent for the last 18 months, Kasabian have returned with all guns blazing, meaner & leaner than before. The scene may have changed slightly with the influx of new rave etc... (what on earth is that, anyway?) but Kasabian were the pioneers of this movement and, with 'Empire', they retain that overlord status.

Despite losing an influential member in Chris Karloff, they haven't taken their eye off the ball, as 'Empire' swaggers more than Paul Dannan after half a shandy. The funky swirls of Serge's electronica backed up with a rhythmic bassline and Tom's strained singing make the whole comeback a roaring success.

'Swimming with the fishes'? Anyone who tries to halt the Kasabian machine may indeed be.
