Mohair - Everything I Want / Little Voice (Earcandy)
4/5

Watford four-piece Mohair have been bubbling under the surface for some time, and these two live favourites are now released before their debut US tour as a double A side. 'Little Voice' is taken directly from the Supegrass school of quirky guitar pop, and Mohair are a damn good pupil. It's an unpretentious track with an infectious melodic chorus, some falsetto from Tom Billington and plenty of 'ooh oohs' in the backing, all laid over an escalating Moog intro and a crescendo of twanging guitars, bass and drums. In the summery classic pop stakes, you can't really fault it.
'Everything I Want' veers away from the sunshine with its darker edge, thrashing drums and more rock'n'roll guitars. The previous sweet melodies are replaced with a Led Zep screech, though the Moogs still there in the midst. Think Jet's 'Are You Going To Be My Girl?', only with proper attitude. 'Everything I Want' is the bad boy on the street compared to the 'Little Voice's boy next door. Two well-accomplished sides to what should be a long deserved breakthrough for Mohair.
