In this song, the words "I can give you what you want" are repeated ad nauseum with such seductive, sleazy conviction that you start to wonder whether, rather than a set of speakers, such a delivery would be more suited to the other end of a phone line, the number of which you've picked up on a flyer promising exotic massages from a London call box. 'Ice Cream' is not clever - but it does have a knack for tapping in to the most base of human pleasures. Cheap thrills, these - sex music.
But as BT Payphones and newsagent top shelves the country over testify, there's a market to be milked here. And I'm falling for it - retro synths, throbbing basslines and vague but decidedly pervy lyrics might be utter filth, but they've got this foot tapping. How funny to enjoy music on a purely physical level...
