Gomez - See The World (Independiente)
3/5

The return of Gomez, with the release of their seventh studio album back in May, was launched with all the pomp and raz-a-ma-taz of an especially small village fete. They are, if you like, currently at the total opposite end of the marketing pole that the Justin Timberlake machine is currently occupying, for it seems that there is not a spare inch of London that isn't currently dedicated to his face. So as most of you are probably not aware; this is Gomez' second single to be taken from the album 'How We Operate'.
'See the World' is an ode to peace and to individuals choosing that which is right over that which can be forced upon us; "You have a chance to put things right /so how's it going to be? / lay down your arms now." To accompany this, the track adopts a distinct Country flavour. Banjos are mixed with acoustic guitars and there is the addition of a female (sounding) harmony in the chorus which firmly mirrors the song's simple ethos, particularly in the line, "See the world / find an old fashioned girl." All this is executed in the loose, lilting, gravel voiced fashion that we've come to expect from this band.
So while most of the world is body popping to the Timberlake, a select few can be found by the tom bola stall discussing the music of Gomez with the vicar over tea and scones.
