Lily Allen - LDN (Regal)
3/5
By: Keri Kennedy
Previously out in seven inch form last April (seven inches equal credibility, see?), this is the second chance for 'LDN' to break the charts this year, and no doubt this September it will, as love her or hate her, you can't have avoided Ms Allen in Summer '06.
Heard everywhere from the likes of Heart FM and in your local boozer to the catwalks of New York Fashion Week, 'LDN' has an infectious ska beat, jovial horns and a sickly sweet yet witty vocal that combine into what would be the perfect soundtrack to the summer just gone, like previous number one single, 'Smile'. It's a tale of riding your bike through the marvelous city, taking in all the sights yet seeing through to its gritty underbelly, incorporating a catchy as hell chorus that even the hardest hater won't be able to get out of their head.
But does it really matter what it sounds like? With a PR team behind Lily garnering her constant coverage in the printed press and on TV, 'LDN' could have Lily farting into a teacup in place of lyrics and it'd probably still be a top ten hit.
