Fury Of The Headteachers - Farewell Comrade (Grace)
4/5

Listening to this band is like being verbally attacked by a highly enthusiastic (yet partially disturbed and totally incoherent) teenager who has just pilfered some high-grade amphetamines. Fury Of The Headteachers, who describe themselves as 'a multi-limbed entity', who 'spend their time bogged down in strange and pointless vendettas' (we like this!) and their sound as 'perpendicular', are essentially punk rock at it's most abstract.
Rather than using the voice as a means of delivering words or melody, front man Chris t'Presland uses his as a method of generating rhythmic noise, with the vocal becoming another part of the energetic sonic pounding delivered by the band. Lyrically this could be anything from the delusory rant of a maniac to the wisdom of one been touched by prodigious insight. I guess we'll never know (although our money's on the former).
All said, this band plays with the gusto of a sizable explosion and 'Farewell Comrade' is an entertainingly nonsensical three minutes of music.
