'Broken Toy' is traditional barn music, effortlessly played and thrown together. Really, it might as well be lined out directly from the P.A. at an open mic night. I reckon they were at least sitting down when they were playing - I mean, it's criminal that these people are actually expected to stand up! Sit down lads, have some fun on a chair.
Don't take this open mic comparison as a criticism. I just mean It's A Buffalo have a 'thrown together, we don't care' kind of sound that makes me want to not care as well and just say 'yeah, it's fair enough isn't it, it's all just music, man...'
It's A Buffalo are a really new band. Really new. They got signed on the back of their first ever gig and 'Broken Toy' is their first release, so there's not a lot you can say about the band themselves as of yet. There are undeniably other bands doing similar stuff, but these two songs are all the better for not being over thought out.
That said, some care has been taken over the lyrics, and there's something to the tone of voice used that's quite convincing and engaging. If the fella can carry on knocking out prose like this then they've undoubtedly hit on something special which can carry them further.
