Paramore - Pressure (Fueled By Ramen)
3/5
By: Christiana Spens
A Tennessee five-piece with a vibrant female vocalist, sultry enough to draw the tone down to earth, rough enough to express something honest about 'Pressure', and yet a voice strong and consistent enough not to falter in the midst of infectious rhythms, intricate guitar and scarlet riffs.
'Pressure', taken from the debut album 'All We Know is Falling', is a pretty straightforward song, so much so that I feel I've heard it before. Sometimes that can mean it's clich้d and unoriginal, but in this case I think it's because it captures the atmosphere of a place I was in recently, and their home state, Tennessee - in such a way that listening to the song is like taking a little trip back to Memphis.
They're loyal to the roots and traditions of their loop, the smoky bars and bourbon and beers crowding the vibrations as much as the tables in a previous live setting. They have a strong identity in their vocals and tone, a sense of place and audience, which makes 'Pressure' formidably confident and rousing, and successful. It's down-to-earth, candid, unpretentious and energetic - it's Jack Daniels for your coke.
