Captain - Frontline (EMI)
4/5
By: Gareth Roberts
Captain are a curious band. They somehow manage to cross the boundaries of both the credible and the downright hated, you know, in effect they could quite comfortably mingle with Conor McNicholas (admittedly maybe not the best example of the 'credible') before toddling off to play crazy golf with hat wearing dickwods Orson.
Add to this the fact that their singer looks like he's not too far away from collecting his bus pass, and there are more contradictions and twisted connotations attached to this band than any other around at the moment. However, at the end of the day it's about the music (that's the most mature thing I've ever said), and whilst yes they may not quite look the part, they can certainly play it.
'Frontline' (despite being one of those downright aggravating re-releases), is a prime slab of pop perfection, and proof (and to be honest it was needed) that this band deserve all the plaudits they are getting, even if some of these are from Heat magazine.
