Neon Plastix - Dream / On Fire (Blow Up)
3/5

Although the first few bars suggest that Neon Plastix will be a cutsey pop band, as soon as it kicks in they sound so much like The Killers it's just silly. Silly I tell you.
However, they are considerably faster and possess a much more fun sound. Neon Plastix are fast. They're intense. They're a little bit crazy. And it's far preferable to the stadium arrogance that just reinforces the idea that The Killers spend most of their days creaming over their own existence (which is worrying, considering that the singer looks like a little boy with a moustache). This lot probably wouldn't bother to look back long enough to come to any conclusions that they are the best band ever, or whatever nonsense those arrogant weirdoes from Las Vegas have been spouting in their interviews of late. Better than Bruce Springsteen my arse.
The drummer's the boy. He's maintaining quite an impressive pace, and if the band's career can keep up, and they don't lose this delightful fullness to their music, they could become a really interesting band to watch. They have lots of ideas, which is a good thing, but presumably there will be various pressures to tone it down and be more accessible. Very few bands can equal the way this band pummel out euphoria, and whilst the lyrics are nothing special and the songs could possibly even do with being catchier, they pull it off due to the fact that the music doesn't put itself out as anything other than completely innocent. The vocal melodies present too are fantastic, and believe me it's not like me to refer to two incredibly popular bands in one review but the singer really does sound like Fran from Franz Ferdinand (as he should be called), and he will never, ever go wrong if he keeps belting out melodies with this much conviction.
Of course, what with them playing really poppy, fast music there are bound to be a hundred things that could be taken as annoying about bands like Neon Plastix, and you do have to really be in the mood for what they do. A lot of people are going to hate it. Personally, I just admire the amount they put into their work. I just hope they can ignore the critics and keep pummelling stuff like this out, because I like to think that this band are so ridiculously pop sounding that they have come out the other side, and in fact come across with total integrity, like a band doing it for only the right reasons.
