Headland - Dogging Sisters (Touchy Feely)
2/5
By: Keri Kennedy
More often than not, a good review or quote about a band can point in the direction of something worth handing over a few quid for. By judging Headland this way ("...pretty amazing" or "gloriously refreshing" are just two recent accolades, of which there are tons), I was expecting 'Dogging Sisters', the third single in a series of download releases, to be at the very least great.
If coming to Headland afresh, with nothing previous to compare to, in itself 'Dogging Sisters' isn't great, or even good, but goddamn awful. It's three-and-a-half minutes of sub Ian Brown vocals over a tinny melody that concludes with a curious crescendo of drums and effects. Apparently their set at last years Glastonbury was pick of the festival by The Times, and that being the case, all I can assume is this single is the dud of their repertoire, because if this is what I was hearing in that muddy field, I fear I'd be heading for my tent.
