The Rumble Strips - Cardboard Coloured Dreams EP (V2)

Charlie Waller - he's like a white James Brown don't you know. Or a straight Kevin Rowland.
The 'Cardboard Coloured Dreams' EP marks a new era for The Rumble Strips, an era where they look set to leave behind the toilet venues and warm Carlings, and start mixing it with the big boys. With songs like 'Oh Creole' and 'High Street Heaven', it isn't hard to imagine these boys going far. Possessing perfectly executed pop sensibilities with an incarnate soulful undertone, it really is music to get excited about.
'Born Bored' and 'Running Away' are equally appealing, showing a poetically ponderous side of the band which we haven't seen before (if perhaps lacking the tap along element). For me, they are a band whose music will always be better when heard live, but until the next time they visit a town near you, this is more than enough to keep you going.
