Alterkicks - On A Holiday (B-Unique)
3/5
By: Keri Kennedy
'On A Holiday' sounds terribly familiar - and maybe that's the sign of a good song - instantly hummable, it feels like it's been around for years.
That's certainly part of its appeal, however the other reason for its familiarity is possibly because the melody is a carbon copy of the Dandy Warhol's 2000 hit, 'Get Off'. A stomping beat? Check. Martin Stilwell's slacker vocal? Check. A climactic chorus? Check. Twiddling guitar solo? Check. All four factors combine to produce an inoffensive yet generic tune that's neither groundbreaking nor in your face, but all the same, far be it from us to say there's anything wrong with it.
A guaranteed hit with fans of the likes of The Doves and all other radio friendly indie, it's a shame that a song that has the potential to be a real festival anthem of the summer has been released in the dark wintry month of November.
