The Rapture - W.A.Y.U.H. (Vertigo)

4/5

By: Keri Kennedy

The Rapture - W.A.Y.U.H.The Rapture continue their campaign of cheesy, slightly camp and yet utterly brilliant releases from the LP Pieces Of The People We Love' with 'W.A.Y.U.H', which stands for the songs chorus of 'Whoo! Alright-Yeah...Uh Huh'. Faster paced than the funky summertime twang of 'Get Myself Into It', 'W.A.Y.U.H' sees bassist Mattie on vocals - with Luke contributing the odd trousers-far-too-tight 'Whoo!' - and has even more cowbell than 'House Of Jealous Lovers' (yes, it's possible). Maybe not the most immediately catchy Rapture track, but once you've got the rhythm it's infectious and can't be shaken off.

Towards the end Mattie even raps (apparently a childhood dream of his, and he does it pretty well) a call-and-response with a couple of ladies, bringing a tongue-in-cheek 80s disco edge. Then there's a crescendo of twiddling and squelching effects to finish it off. It becomes repetitive - in a good way - but as ever with The Rapture, they've done what they know best and made another arse-shaking hit that's best heard with the volume up as high as it can go.
