In 'Second, Minute or Hour' we get a glimpse of who'll be 2007's boy wonder. Amidst bidding wars and much noise being made this winter about Jack Penate, his debut single recalls the summer, a soulful tune with rockabilly and urban elements thrown in. His happy go lucky lyrical style too will make you yearn for the sunshine - "I lost my head when I found my heart..."
Though it's not the most progressive of sounds and Penate's scope can at times seem limited, the charming naivety to it all oddly acts in his favour. His sole acoustic balladry, as displayed on b-side 'Got My Favourite' further push his uncomplicated strengths to the fore, as the Whileys and Lowes of this world will attest.
Missing the boat on this special talent would be perilous, as in six month's time Jack Penate will with any luck be the name on everyone's proverbial lips.
