Lily Allen - Littlest Things (Regal)
4/5

Ahhh, where would we be without our Lily?
What she's achieved is quite remarkable really. Think about it. Not only has she risen from relative obscurity to become the nation's indie darling, but she's done so despite the fact that she is the offspring of surely one of the country's most hated men.
'Littlest Things' is the bookend to what surely must be known from here forth as the year of the Lily, and it's another wonderfully crafted pop song. Where as 'Smile' and 'LDN' provided the soundtrack to a hazy summer, this is the sound of a dark Winter where our heroine reminisces about a lost love, recalling, amongst other things, "when we went shopping and all we bought was trainers." Her turn of phrase is so refreshingly simple yet so strikingly poignant. It's a wonder why there aren't more pop stars like her, but to be honest she's all we need.
