Charlotte Hatherley - Behave (Little Sister)
3/5

I can't help but have a soft spot for Charlotte Hatherley. I mean, you've got to respect someone who has the guts to leave a band like Ash (who, whilst a tad... trite, still managed to create some of the past decade's best pop songs).
'Behave' is the first track to be lifted off second album 'The Deep Blue' set for release in March, a record which on this basis is likely to be greeted with same response as her debut i.e. relatively well acclaimed critically but seemingly super-glued to HMV's shelves.
One of Charlotte's great strengths is her wonderful way with a melody, and she exercises this to full effect here, creating what we'll succinctly describe as just a lovely song. Like I say, Charlotte's difficulty has been selling records, and it isn't hard to see why, as whilst this song is a winner, you can't really picture who would part with cash for it (other than your Ash fans, natch). It's too normal for the hipsters, too alternative for the mums.
My advice is enjoy Charlotte while you can, before it's too late and she has to get a job in - sob - Sainsburys.
