The Isles - Summer Loans (Melodic)
4/5
By: Gareth Roberts
"After the success of their album 'Perfumed Lands," reads the press release, "the band want to extend it for as long as possible." That explains the December release of 'Summer Loans' then.
The song has an unmistakable summery feel to it, which does feel a bit odd as you listen to it whilst watching the rain and sleet cascading down outside, but still, a bit of escapism never did anyone any harm. Managing to mix a variety of genres into a single song without making it sound like a cut and paste job is a rare talent, and fortunately The Isles have got it right.
The summery indie vibes interspersed with a funky bass which then gives way to an epic anthem (well, not quite, but almost). Overall, a fine song, probably better if it had been released in the Summer months, but still, I'll take a bass-line like that at any time of year.
