Duke Special - Freewheel (V2)
3/5
By: Sofie Jenkinson
An incredibly emotive tit bit from singer songwriter Duke Special's (Peter Wilson's) 2005 album 'Songs From The Deep Forest'. A strong and unashamedly grandiose mark on the face of music, it's engaging as both something free standing and as a part of the tapestry of similarly grand sounds on the album. The edgy Northern Irish drawl of Wilson leaves its distinct mark on every second of the song, leading the tune through thick foliage as much as skipping through the clouds.
Creating a similar feel to that of a film soundtrack, it frequently builds itself up to ear splitting crescendos, reiterating its previously beautiful sounds. Colourful scenes spring into the mind; poignant moments of victory, in life, romance or otherwise, in a film possibly involving a talking woodland animal. Although, with many fantastic moments, it is all over egged slightly come the end.
