Fionn Regan - Be Good or Be Gone (Bella Union)
4/5
By: Sofie Jenkinson
This eerily soulful ultimatum, the opening track from Regan's debut album 'The End of History', is hopeful and despairing in equal measure, spiked through with melancholy. His fragile vocal bending like willow branches in the wind, its Irish sensibility holds itself with poise and teeters on elegance throughout.
As emotion begins to crack through the beginnings of the chorus an impeccably timed multiple vocal becomes encased in its centre, circling around and around, all as the gentle plucking of velvet string after string simply winds its merry way from beginning to end.
Although seeming wisps of sadness wrap around each note, it is not a taste of hopelessness that is left on the lips but something very strong and self assured - the sorrow of one who has made their mind up.
