Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Satan Said Dance (Wichita)
3/5
By: Keri Kennedy

It's quite obvious what CYHSY (or maybe Wichita?) are doing releasing 'Satan Said Dance' as a comeback single. Although it's rather unhinged and chaotic, it is danceable, and will definitely be on a few indie night DJ playlists, something which cannot be said about most of the other tracks on the new LP, 'Some Loud Thunder'. It's one of the most accessible CYHSY tracks, not forgetting that 'Satan Said Dance' has been a live staple since Clap Yer Hands first arrived on our shores 18 months ago. It's a no brainer; people have been waiting for this song to be released.
'Satan Said Dance' sticks out on the LP - it feels like a forgotten leftover from the debut, slotted alongside the new tracks in the hope no one would notice. If you forget the floating melodies of 'In This Home On Ice' and think towards the disco beat of 'Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth', then add some sporadic bleeps, off kilter piano and Alec Ounsworth's most desperate, repetitive vocal, you're almost there.
A much better choice of single could have been the album's title track or 'Underwater (You And Me)' - they might not be quite as edgy, but both portray the progression in CYHSY's sound. Alas, 'Satan Said Dance' somehow feels like a step backwards.
