Performance - Freeze (?)

4/5

By: Alex Lee Thomson

Performance

Funkier than a soul brother hitchin' a ride on a pimped out Human League tour bus, Performance's latest piece of new material in a barrage of pre-album releases outlandishly braces the dancefloors of Britain for the forthcoming album... it's on it's way, and oh it's gonna party harder than you've ever heard a piece of circular plastic do before.

Performance have always had that New Order / Depeche Mode thing going, but with this one they've found a more playful, John Hughes-like approach making a sleek and stylish sound over a harsh and unforgiving electric thump. The heat and sleaze is still there though, bouncing from it's Stellastarr* reminiscent poetry that, at a time when The Rakes look set to destroy our minds once again with a follow on to 'Capture Release', is more than stroking our musical g-spots.

The track itself, dirty and flamboyant, is at the pinnacle of where British electro-pop is, writhing over the walls with sass and harmony while it festers away in your head, killing brain matter and reason until only the bands urban sub-verse remains as a reminder of what man is capable of. The dramatics will have you up past your bedtime and the vocals will keep you up til morning, scouring the bedroom floor in happy-hardcore bliss. Nice.
