The Pigeon Detectives - Romantic Type (Dance To The Radio)

3/5

By: Gareth Roberts

The Pigeon Detectives - Romantic TypeYet again, Yorkshire has thrown up another soon to be all conquering band; must be something in the water up there. Alcohol, probably.

'Romantic Type' is a more than worthy follow up to the excellent 'I'm Not Sorry' and 'You Know I Love You' singles, songs which have led to such tags as 'the UK equivalent of The Strokes' no less, and which have firmly secured the Pigeon Detectives' position as the most recent 'next big thing'.

Like all bands that go on to be massive (see Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Fratellis), their music has to appeal across a wide spectrum of the record buying public, from the hipsters at the indie disco to the lads that sink 12 pints on a Friday night before looking for someone to beat up. And the Pigeon Detectives, well, they've got this down to a fine art. So what we have is a gloriously catchy number that the fashionistas can nod along to in a completely un-knowing way, and which the Burberry clad chavs down Wetherspoons can sing along and jump around to in a non-gay way.

"Its not that I'm not the romantic type, its just that I like what I choose to like" yells Matt Bowman, if ever there was a chorus that in one mass sing-along could eradicate Britain's class divides (momentarily at least), this is it. Maybe we should notify the Government.
