The All New Adventures of Us - St. Crispin's Got Our Backs (Mannequin Republic)
5/5

The All New Adventures Of Us (TANOU for short, as they're commonly referred to) are one of England's best kept secrets. Luckily Sam Duckworth, aka Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly., can't keep a secret, and has decided to give this band a leg up by taking them on tour and releasing this single on his newly set up label Mannequin Republic.
Now, bear with me, but TANAOU to me are like the Arcade Fire - not just because both have loads of members, or because they sound particularly alike in places, but because the excitement I feel listening to this for the first time reminds me of how elated I felt when I first heard the work of Win Butler and co.
'St. Crispin's Got Our Backs' is a beautifully crafted slice of well written indie pop designed to bring aural pleasure to the ears and send shivers down your spine. It's a song which explodes and drops from hook to hook with luscious melodies that sit wonderfully over the delightfully layered music that backs it. It's this side of the Atlantic's response to Americana - they've carved a sound that's a breath of fresh air in comparison to the majority of indie bands we produce and I can't help but warm to them.
The B-Side, 'The Art Of The High Five' is equally as well written and delightful, so much so that it's rather difficult to decide which song here to prefer. TANOU have broken the norm for singles releases by providing two excellent tracks, the suggestion being that they're harbouring plenty more, too...
