Bonde Do Role - Solta O Frango (Domino)

4/5

By: Jacob Dunkley

Bonde Do Role - Solta O FrangoLove it or leave it, Brazilian club music has never really been the biggest musical genre to impact on our shores - though perhaps though Bonde Do Role are the ones to change that.

Rocking in their first single at just over 2 minutes and crossing South American club beats and rhythms with rapping delivered in their native tongue, there are also hints of house, rock and electro thrown in. Indeed, that may sound like I've just created the most ridiculous mix of genres to ever spew from the mouth of a music critic, but Bonde Do Role aren't exactly the kind of band you can pigeon hole without breaking into a sweat.

Apparently the song's title 'Solta O Frango' translates to mean 'Release The Chickens', but if anything this first release by the band is in fact intended to mean a call to arms to go and party. It partially has the sound of adverts for sweets or ice cream you might catch on the television while staying in a Portugese villa, and for that very reason, we deem it to be ace. Novel maybe, but ace nonetheless.

What with CSS currently residing on the stereos of many a Brit and with global warming threatening to bring us all a warmer life, perhaps this summer we'll find English clubs full of people partying away to the sounds of South American dance music and enjoying endless heat. Worse things could happen, eh?
