Shitdisco - OK (Fierce Panda)
4/5
By: Alex Lee Thomson
Our idea of a shit disco would involve Girls Aloud and Atomic Kitten being played back to back with Chris Moyles at the decks and non-alcoholic punch being served by that lad from college nobody likes while daylight streams through the window. What Shitdisco means to us however is non-stop and very muddy 80s electronica purged into a darker and anarchic Whip-trash-like constancy of reason enclosed in a foil blanket of Klaxons-humping beat cyclones.
'OK' is a track which creates a disco no matter where it's played and where Klaxons fall back onto a supplementary pop crash Shitdisco focus very much more on a thicker, grungier northern sound that's already proven to be something of a party must-hear in Manchester and it's the heavier approach that allows Shitdisco to exist in a suddenly swamping field. The songs fuzzy bass kicks a Franz Ferdinandian and androgynous vocal into action and like a novelty lunch box - it's both fun and practical with a durability and trance like agenda that bids you to mockingly shake your booty like it's nineteen eighty four.
