Little Barrie - Pay to Join (Genuine)

4/5

By: Jo-Rosie Haffenden

Little Barrie - Pay To Join'Pay to Join' is Little Barrie's smooth second release from their frankly outstanding album 'Stand Your Ground', and I am in lust.

Sure-footed simplistic mocking bass tones woo the listener deeply and elevated, youthful, almost feminine vocals, with a seductive breathy masculine edge, charm effortlessly. The scratchy guitar is at one with the vocalist, as though the instrument and Mr. Little Barrie and his poppy voice are equal frontmen. The two tracks on the single are nothing short of sexual.

The drum and bass are also of equal prowess and tease through the cool laissez-faire verse into an accomplished assertive build, pushing sexily towards the chorus which enthrals, unassuming yet distinctively self-assured and catchy. It is youthful gangster music at its absolute best - made to seduce, skin up and chill out to (possibly and ideally in that order). This understated 2-track EP is smouldering, musically apt and impressively soulful; 'As the fever steals your mind...and the beats don't seem to rise...' you become cooler just by listening to these boys.
