Fury Of The Headteachers - Not What It Used To Be (Grace)

4/5

By: Keri Kennedy

Fury of the Headteachers - Not What It Used To BeSheffield based favourites of Marc Riley, Fury Of The Headteachers' third single delivers a slice of wonky, shouty guitar pop in the same vein as The Rakes when they were at their best. The chugging guitar riffs, chaotic drums and disorderly production all add to its charm.

Chris Presland's throttling vocals are so indecipherable they've even provided a lyric sheet with the CD, and although it doesn't make it any clearer as to what this song is really about, there's no doubt the chorus is as infectious as it can get.

For a band who refer to themselves on their Myspace profile as 'bastards' and claim to have played gigs in 'well-to-do gentlemen's hats', we know that we're probably never going to get any sense out of this lot, but who cares when they produce hook laden gems like this.
